Slurry Storage Tanks

Just in time design, fabrication and installation.

DEALING WITH CHANGING CONDITIONS

Original contract involved converting two elevated conical bottom tanks into flat bottom tanks by filling them with concrete. A detailed inspection performed once the tanks were emptied identified defects in the cone structure and cylindrical sections that were beyond an economical repair. It was decided to demolish the tanks and design new ones that would sit at ground level.

WORKING TOGETHER FOR A COMMON GOAL

In order to meet the project timeline, a dedicated project team was put together consisting of representatives from the Owner, engineer and Lopes. Daily meetings were held to enable decisions to be made on the spot to resolve any issues. The new design and construction were completed simultaneously. Due to the physical constraints and the lack of overhead lifting capability, a Jekko minicrane was purchased by Lopes to complete the demolition and installation. A FRACO mast climbing work platform was also utilized for the demolition.
