Lopes prides itself on being a full-service turn-key fabrication shop for everything from 26ga. to 3″ thick plate fabrication of carbon steel, aluminum, alloy steel including 300 and 400 series stainless and duplex stainless steel, weathering steel, and other highly corrosion resistant alloys. We even weld copper!

DESIGN FOR MANUFACTURING ASSEMBLY (DFM/DFA)

In-house expertise is often able to recommend design alternatives to facilitate manufacturing or field assembly, easily visualized and verified using the latest in 3D modelling such as Tekla structures and AutoCAD inventor.

SHOP CRANES

  • Our shops are equipped with more than a dozen overhead cranes
  • Our main fabrication bay has cranes up to 30 ton with a 22’6” under-hook clearance
  • Projects up to approximately 50 tons can be accommodated (Our biggest so far was 130 tons)
  • Oversized bay doors allow for oversized parts Shop doors are 25’W x 22’H and 24’W x 20’H
  • Oversized doors 23' wide X 23' high

PLATE ROLLS

  • Three plate rolls provide a wide range of working sizes
  • Largest being a 4-roll, 10’ x 1” capable of rolling inch-thick plate 10’ wide to a minimum diameter of 27”

MACHINING & HEAT TREATING

  • Radial drill – 51” arm/2” drilling capacity
  • General Purpose Lathe – Size 14×40
  • Other machining services can be arranged through

  • Heat treating is available on the premises

STRUCTURAL STEEL

  • Fully automated CNC drill/saw with milling capabilities, producing structural steel in accordance with CISC, AISC, ARMA codes and standards

COMPUTER AIDED DRAFTING, DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING (CAD/CAM)

  • In-house 3D Modeling and 2D shop drawings
  • CAD software include the latest editions of AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor
  • CNC cutting machines load files directly from CAD for processing
  • TEKLA structures for creating BIM models

PRESS BRAKES

  • Four press brakes in our fleet, the largest being 1250 ton x 16 feet
  • Capable of bending plate from light gauge to several inches thick, depending on width

ANGLE ROLLS

  • Angle – Leg-out – 5”x5”x1/2”
  • Angle – Leg-in – 4”x4”x1/2”
  • Flatbar – On Flat – 8”x2”
  • Flatbar – On Edge – 6”x5/8”
  • Beam – Easy way – 8”
  • Beam – Hard way – 5”
  • Minimum Roll diameter – 15”

PROFILING AND CUTTING

  • 10' X 50' 5 axis bevel head plasma table up to 4" thick with oxy fuel up to 2" thick with automated part making
  • Can cut 3” plate with plasma
  • Can cut 6” plate with oxy-fuel
  • Shears up to 1/2” x 10'

WELDING EQUIPMENT

  • Unless by customer request, we use only automatic or semi-automatic welding equipment
  • Flux-core (FCAW) and hard-wire (MIG)
  • Automated Laser-guided Submerged Arc Welder (SAW) with full gantry

CERTIFICATIONS

Fully certified to fabricate to the following quality standards:

  • CWB W47.1 (Steel Welded Structures)
  • CWB W47.2 (Aluminum Welded Structures)
  • TSSA FUELS, PRESSURE PIPING, ASME SECTON VIII
  • ASME B31.1, B31.3
  • ASME B51
  • Repair and alteration of boilers, pressure vessels, piping and category A, B, C, D, E, F & H type fittings
  • API 620 (TSSA Storage Tanks)
  • API 650 (TSSA Fuel/Oil Storage Tanks)
  • Can fabricate according to Arema Chapter 15

WELD REPAIR SERVICES

Lopes’ typical repair process:

  1.  A visual analysis is performed by our CWB certified weld inspector
  2.  Lopes provides a written report with repair recommendations
  3.  Customers respond with written approval to proceed with repairs, confirming the weld testing procedures and analysis needed to verify the quality of welds used in the repair.
  4. Proceed with repairs and use Visual Inspection or as additional option, use Liquid Penetrant or Magnetic Particle methods and if required, Radiography may be performed.
  5. Lopes performs the repairs, creates a report and delivers to the customer

POST-FABRICATION SERVICES

  • Sandblasting
  • MOE Environmentally compliant
  • We can do a variety of coatings from epoxy to urethane, to simple shop primer.

Operating on our own independent 400-acre industrial park has its advantages. Our team can build, store, and ship even the most intricate jobs. Close in proximity to the Trans-Canada Highway, and a direct spur line tied into Canadian Pacific and Canadian National rail lines, moving objects on a massive scale is never a problem.

Unique and difficult to manoeuvre projects are welcomed by our team. We have the lifting capabilities, inside and outside,
to handle over-sized specialty projects. Our vast fleet of equipment for transporting finished product ensures your job is
done efficiently and safely using the right tools and equipment. Our standing wide load permit allows us to move your item quickly.
